Efficiency is at the core of the new office building for technology company John Crane (part of Smiths Group plc), located in Thailand. A curtain-wall glass system is used for the materialisation of the facade. This way light can pass through to the meeting room, entrance hall, guest room, office area and stair hall. The walls are 1.5 meters to provide cover from the sun during the day and to help reduce the use of airconditioning.
The volume of the staircase is used as a sculpture in the composition of the front facade. At the same time, it provides shade from the corner where the sun is strongest. All over the front facade, the overhang provides cover from the sun.
Public related areas are situated towards the glass front facade to make the building appear welcoming. The more private spaces are situated towards the back.
