As a contribution to the International Horti Expo in Xi’an, the Holland exhibit, is a contemporary Dutch landscape that explores the life cycle of water as the foundation of sustainability. Inspired by the linear structure of Dutch polders and the vibrant colors of flower bulb cultivation, the garden is organized as a striped landscape of parallel planting bands.

A levada-inspired system of ditches and small canals forms the backbone of the design. Water is collected at the highest point of the site and distributed across the garden through gravity, using the natural slope to power irrigation with minimal mechanical intervention.

At the center of the system is the Eco-Pavilion, a glass-house wrapped in bamboo that references Dutch horticulture while blending into the landscape through water, vegetation, and light materials. More than an exhibition space, it functions as a reservoir where fish and helophyte plants naturally purify water before it is reused for irrigation.

The pavilion demonstrates a closed-loop ecological cycle linking water, nutrients, and cultivation. Fish farming supports plant growth, while greenhouses and filters cleanse the water for continuous reuse. Prefabricated, reusable construction, solar glass, wind energy, geo-aqua thermal systems, passive cooling, and phase-change materials make the pavilion energy-positive and environmentally responsive.
